2018!

Happy New Year, you guys!  We've done it!  We made it through another year full of joy, heartache, new experiences, comfortable habits, paradigm-shifting revolutions, and reminders that things stay the same, more often than not.  Nothing quite displays the paradox of being a human quite like looking back over everything that happened just in the space of a year.

With a new year comes New Year's resolutions.  I have always been one of those "I don't make New Year's resolutions because we shouldn't have to depend on the new year to make a change in ourselves" type of people, and I recently came to a realization that a) that's pretty darn judgmental of people who do utilize New Year's resolutions, and b) what better time to make a personal resolution than a time that is full of hope and unknown discoveries?  So, here's another paradox for you to ponder: the girl who doesn't make New Year's resolutions is going to share some of her New Year's resolutions.  Some of these are ongoing or recurring resolutions in my life, some that are new, some that I am already doing but want to do better, and many I probably can't accomplish just in the space of 365 days, but here we go anyway.

I think one of the reasons why I avoid New Year's Resolutions is that they're a resolution, something that you resolve to accomplish.  And yet, the running joke every single year is that New Year's resolutions never come to fruition.  As someone with a paralyzing fear of failure, resolutions just sound like an accident waiting to happen.  So, instead of New Year's resolutions, I'm making these New Year's intentions.  These are things that I intend to do to make myself a better person, because if that's not the ultimate goal of New Year's resolutions, then there's not really any point, in my opinion.  Welcome to 2018, everyone.  I hope it's truly great!

PS - I just realized that I have somehow reached 3,000 page views on this blog!  I can't convey how much it means to me that people read what I write (or maybe just accidentally click, but it still counts!)  As always, I write this blog primarily for myself, but I love that people seem to like spending time with the me that I type out for the Internet.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.
