26!
Hey all! Welcome to my annual birthday post! If you care to hear why I find it important to celebrate my birthday, feel free to read my post from two years ago. I read through that post now and think about how so many things are different, and yet, many, many things are still the same.
I'm not really sure what to write about this trip around the sun, to be honest. 26 feels too young to depart hard-earned wisdom and too old to look toward the future with naive, unrestricted hope. But even still, maybe I can share about some things that I learned this year and some things that I'm looking forward to for the next year, the next decade, the next 26 years.
I learned how to order coffee so that I'll actually enjoy what I get.
I learned how to make macarons, croissants, babka, and a lot of other beautiful sweet treats.
I learned how to preserve food through canning.
I learned about beautiful places that are right down the road from me.
I learned about beautiful places that are in different states.
I learned the names of my mental illness.
I learned the names, lives, and passions of new and beautiful people that came into my life.
I learned how much I enjoy Instagram Stories.
I learned to speak my passions out loud.
I learned how to be responsible for another being's life, even if she is a cat.
I learned how to drive a school bus.
I learned how to have powerful conversations.
I'm looking forward to being a better friend.
I'm looking forward to the day when I don't need to go to therapy anymore.
I'm looking forward to figuring out how to make the perfect sourdough loaf.
I'm looking forward to being fully compassionate to myself.
I'm looking forward to meeting new people and new places.
I'm looking forward to learning all kinds of new things.
I'm looking forward to writing, and finishing, a book.
I'm looking forward to seeing the perfect sunset.
I'm looking forward to trying new food.
I'm looking forward to buying a house.
I'm looking forward to seeing new art.
I'm looking forward to the continued process of becoming more and more of my true self.
If you're looking for a way to celebrate my birthday (I know that's not really how this works, but just use it as an excuse for what I'm about to say), then I encourage you to do at least one action of self-love in my honor. Buy the fancy cupcake, write yourself a note of affirmation, take a nap, ask for help, pray, eat a healthy dinner, sit outside for ten minutes, watch your favorite season of the Great British Bake Off on Netflix again, do something that reinforces just how important and necessary of a person you are.
Thank you so much for the birthday well-wishes I've received so far, I am overwhelmingly blessed to celebrate my life surrounded by so many generous and loving people.
